Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility
AIReF is a fiscal supervisor that must guarantee budgetary stability. To achieve this, it continuously evaluates the budget cycle, public indebtedness and economic forecasts through the reports established in the Law. In addition, it issues recommendations that are governed by the principle of comply or explain.
AIReF has been carrying out an important evaluation activity for years, which today is one of the pillars of the institution. The aim is to help develop more effective and efficient policies in favor of citizens.
Through its supervision and evaluation functions, AIReF ensures the fulfillment of its main mission: to watch over the sustainability of public finances as a way to ensure economic growth and the well-being of Spanish society in the medium and long term. In addition to reports and studies, AIReF carries out analyses of the main challenges facing public finances. It also develops tools to analyze these challenges.
AIReF makes its data, projections and tools available to users for exhaustive monitoring of the evolution of the economy and the fiscal situation. The institution has models for analyzing key parameters such as compliance with the stability targets, the evolution of GDP in real time, GDP by Autonomous Regions and the evolution of public debt.
It analyzes variables such as deficit, debt, GDP, income or expenditure of each Autonomous Region and makes comparisons. It also includes forecasts and AIReF reports.
The Interactive Observatory of Local Corporations, with more than 20 million economic and financial data on almost 8,200 local corporations.
Interactive data visualization tool for the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (RTRP) that captures the amounts that are flowing into the real economy.
Transparency is one of the key principles that define AIReF and by which the institution is committed to providing citizens with all the relevant information on its activity. The Institution discloses the methodology and criteria underpinning its Reports, Opinions and Studies in collaboration with the different Public Administrations and international organizations.

Cristina Herrero assumed the presidency of the AIReF on March 4, after the Congress unanimously accepted her proposal.
The AIReF is to ensure the sustainability of public finances as a way to ensure the economic growth and well-being of.
AIReF has four divisions made up of teams with extensive experience and expertise in their respective specialities, which strengthens its ability to carry out its mission with independence and objectivity.
