The Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) today held its second seminar on structural issues with an impact on the sustainability of public accounts, this time focusing on the impact of the labour reform on employment and productivity.
Last October, AIReF inaugurated this series of seminars with the aim of complementing its own analyses with a view to updating the Opinion on Long-term Sustainability that AIReF will publish in March 2025. A total of four sessions will be held: prospects for the evolution of productivity; the implications of the labour reform on employment and productivity; immigration, the labour market and prospects for the evolution of participation rates, and the impact of increases in the minimum wage (SMI) on contributions and employment.
In this second seminar, AIReF’s Economic Analysis Division began by introducing the work being carried out at the institution to analyse the effects of labour reform, followed by three presentations. Firstly, Luis Puch, Professor of Economic Analysis and Director of Research at the Complutense Institute of Economic Analysis (ICAE), spoke about temporary employment, labour reform and the business cycle. Secondly, Rafael Domenech, the Head of Economic Analysis at BBVA Research, spoke about the labour market and productivity following the labour reform. Lastly, José Ignacio García Pérez, Professor of Economic Analysis at Pablo de Olavide University and Rector of the International University of Andalusia, gave a presentation on the effects of the labour reform on job stability.
The third session of the seminar cycle will be held in December, focusing on immigration, and the last session will take place in January, focusing on the impact of increases in the minimum wage (SMI) on contributions and employment.
