The President of the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF), Cristina Herrero, today received the ‘Tintero’ award granted by the Association of Economic Information Journalists (APIE) for her work at the head of the institution. After receiving the award, the President highlighted the importance of transparency for AIReF – one of the pillars of the institution, together with independence and accountability. “Without transparency, AIReF would not be AIReF”, she stated.
This year is the 36th edition of the APIE ‘Tintero y Secante’ awards. The ‘Tintero’ award represents the recognition of journalists for leading figures in the world of economics that facilitate their informative work, while the ‘Secante’ award is granted to those that the members of APIE consider to be barely active in their communication with the economic press or, on occasions, even absent for journalists.
Cristina Herrero received the ‘Tintero’ award, while the Chairmen of the CNMV, Rodrigo Buenaventura, and of the Cercle d’ Economía, Jaume Guardiola, were runners-up. For their part, the Chairwoman of El Corte Inglés, Marta Álvarez; the Chairwoman of Inditex, Marta Ortega; and the Chairman of Indra, Marc Murtra, were the award winner and runners-up of the Secante award. In addition, the deceased professor and economist Emilio Ontiveros was named honorary member of the APIE.
After receiving the award, Cristina Herrero began her speech by thanking the media for their important daily work in society, and highlighted the figure of Emilio Ontiveros – one of the precursors of economic dissemination in Spain. She also extended the Tintero award to the whole team at AIReF, who appreciate and share the culture of transparency which, in certain areas of the public sector, is not always so clear.
Cristina Herrero recalled that transparency forms part of the DNA of AIReF. Transparency, in her words, helps the institution better perform its supervisory work, strengthens its independence and facilitates AIReF’s aim to be useful for society as a whole, one of the commitments Cristina Herrero took on when nominated to head up the institution.
She recalled that AIReF’s communication strategy is based on communicating its reports, studies and opinions without making unnecessary noise. In her opinion, the language of AIReF is respected and is providing results, trusting that it will continue to improve the relationship of mutual trust between the media and the institution in the future. She ended by thanking the media for the award and again highlighted the work that journalists perform in society.
